I head up Sopra Steria’s Ethics and Sustainability consultancy. I have led teams on responsible AI and digital ethics projects with the Scottish Government and leading UK banks, among others, and set up in-house AI governance at Sopra Steria. I have spoken at national and international conferences on digital ethics, given evidence at the Houses of Lords and Commons in digital ethics and been interviewed on BBC TV and radio and Channel 4. My work focuses on a human-centred approach to understanding and mitigating ethical concerns at a cultural and societal level while seeking to develop ethical opportunities through technology.Formerly an analyst and manager at GCHQ and the US Department of Defense, I was Professor of Ethics in the UK and The Netherlands, where I worked on 12 multi-million euro projects for the European Commission and carried out governance for over 150 projects for regulatory and ethical compliance. I led a major partner contribution on the EU’s SHERPA – Ethics of AI international project and have published thought leadership in digital ethics, including three books and 50 academic articles and chapters.
