The BCC is an organization using Relational-Cultural Therapy (RCT) to promote social change through connection. This is done through an offering of therapeutic services, community building, and advocacy and education of RCT. My support role has helped to review and troubleshoot technical needs of the BCC and building facilities, organize events, create videos and presentation materials, and lead a project to create concept cards summarizing RCT concepts (RCT Toybox).

SociaLens is a research and consultancy firm specializing in strategic use of digital tools within organizations. As a co-founder of the company with Christian Briggs, we have adapted Elinor Ostrom's Nobel Prize-winning theories on common-pool resources to form a framework for analyzing factors influencing an organization's ability to succeed through digital fluency. I have provided technical expertise in developing a survey platform for self-assessment of skills, instrumental in providing a baseline for improvement. Together, we have written a book on digital fluency, "Digital Fluency: Building Success in the Digital Age."

Kuali Student is a multi-institutional community source project to develop an Internet-based enterprise application to manage higher education. As a member of the Core UX group, my primary task was to establish and document design standards that could be used to improve Agile development of the software.

Started in 2006 by Wired's Chris Anderson, GeekDad covers topics as diverse as gaming, Internet and media culture, application development, literature, programming, comics and maker projects.

While pursuing masters and doctoral degrees, I worked as a graduate assistant for Informatics classes in design, programming and ethnography. My research interests span the academic space between Human-Computer Interaction Design and Complex Systems, examining holistic design of groups and organizations. My dissertation focuses on the specific problems women face online trying to engage in meaningful political discussion, and the impact of application design on their perceived efficacy of political discussion. I have also studied local use of digital media, sports informatics, and phatic communication as a factor in design.

pixSmix was a design concept for a reflection engine that pulled meaningful data about visual materials from individual manipulation of images to form collages.

Working collaboratively with a small team of User Experience Designers and various project managers and engineers, I was tasked with developing user-centered strategic designs for the underlying search categorization technology of the company. Domain areas include travel, health, autos, blogging and local interest. During the extended internship, I was responsible for gathering insight, exploring design opportunities, participating in design strategy, recommending tangible design expressions and communicating the essence of these ideas.

I served as the primary internet developer for TicketsNow.com and EventInventory.com as the company made its way to the World Wide Web for the first time (in 1999 and 2001, respectively). My primary duties evolved from simple web design and HTML coding to Cold Fusion and Transact SQL programming, ultimately creating and providing technical support for several systems.

My duties included design and construction of a school-wide web-based content management system. This involved regular interaction with technical and administrative contacts in the various programs within the school. I also provided programming support and training to other employees responsible for web presence. During my stay, I researched, implemented and maintained the "Kelley Cam," an internet camera strategically placed to monitor progress on a new building for the Business School.

As a freelance web designer in the early days of the consumer Internet, I dedicated my efforts to bringing small businesses onto the World Wide Web. Included in these efforts was square.city, an expansive community website for Woodstock, Illinois. The site featured regular news updates from the local newspaper, discussion boards, a virtual tour of the city, a popular daily trivia game, and the first live-blogged high school football games in the nation.
