My name is Kevin Patrick Glavin. My ancestors hail from the Emerald Isle; my surname can be traced back to the Gaelic Ó Gláimhin, meaning “satirist.” I grew up mostly in the Midwest. After receiving my BA in English and MAT in English Education from the University of Iowa, I sashayed like my forefathers--westward. I have been honored to teach many amazing students over the past 26 years, at the elementary, high school, and collegiate levels, in the United States and abroad, but mostly in Claremont, California. Among the courses I have instructed are Shakespeare, International Baccalaureate English Year 2, Creative Writing, AP Composition, AP Literature, Freshman English, Short Story and Poetry, Journalism 1 and 2, Sophomore English, and British Literature. In addition, I have been a Speech and Debate coach and a Student Newspaper adviser. Since 2008, I have been a BTSA mentor for the BTSA Teacher Induction Program, helping 9 teachers earn their credential. I have also taught at the University of Phoenix online since 2008, facilitating COM 150, COM 155, and COM 156. For a few summers, I was a guest lecturer in Intermediate and Advanced English at the International Summer Language School, University of West Bohemia, Pilsen, Czech Republic. I have also lectured for the Summer Bridge Program at UC Riverside. I completed my Administrative Credential at UC Irvine in 2008. In 2009, I formed my own publishing company to learn the entire art of bringing a book to market, in print and digitally, and to maintain creative freedom, and soon published my first novel, "Rock Star's Rainbow," a literary satire, which was named to Kirkus Reviews' Best of 2011 list. In 2012, I released my first children's book--"All The Things You'll Do!" I have many other fun and exciting creative projects currently in development.
