Working in APC has been my pleasure for over 25 years. After long periods with Honeywell and BluESP (an Aspentech partner), and a period with Hatch, I am looking forward to consulting with the industry on the real benefits that APC offers to the process industries.Before becoming involved in APC, I had spent 8 years at the University of the Witwatersrand, acquiring a PhD along the way. I then used my modelling skills as a process design engineer, specialising in reacting systems. I spent some time developed dynamic simulators for operator training - again very much modelling related.I aim to deliver APC projects that meet my client's business goals and to have fun doing it. I enjoy mentoring young engineers, and my position at Wits allows me to supervise post-graduate students. In this, I work with my colleague, Antony Higginson. I love giving papers and presentations.I was honoured to be elected as President of the South African Council for Automation and Control (SACAC) in 2013 and 2014. SACAC promotes our profession in South Africa and hosted the world congress of the International Federation of Automatic Control in 2014 in Cape Town. I am currently on the EXCO of SACAC. I am on the Excom of the International |Federation of Automation Control (IFAC) Industry sub-committee and am an industrial vice-chair for the IFAC |Technical COmitte TC6.2 om metals, mining and minerals.Specialities: My strength lies in the fact that after many years of experience I can analyse a process quickly, and understand the correct level of modelling required to optimise it.
