About Kevin Phillipson

I am a Professor of Entrepreneurship and Marketing. My teaching style is based on real-world examples, assignments and stress the importance of being able to teach in a way that the student can immediately relate to the material and begin applying to their career and lives. Education is not just in the classroom.Founded the West Texas Performance Academy, a non-profit organization focused on the development of college aged athletes, male and female. We specialize in rugby and soccer. We also run camps for kids 10 to 18 developing the core skills.My partner and I own Performance Rugby Analytics, PRA, working with national unions to develop stronger and more sustainable programs. We providing consulting, strategic planning, analytical and tactical support, coach development at all levels.I consult with business owners doing strategic business planning specializing in small companies that are looking for exit strategies or transition to the next generation. I assist startups with strategies and guidance to navigate the early years.Angie and I own Brentwood Field, the home to Abilene Rugby Club and West Texas Performance Academy.I have earned a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA), an MBA, an MSM: Marketing, and an MSM: Sports Management. I am doing research in the area of college recruitment, sports and athlete performance, and business marketing and development.I am a member of Sigma Beta Delta, the International Honor Society for Business, Management and Administration. Received my DTM from Toastmasters International, as well as their Leadership Excellence award, and the Ralph Helm Fellowship awarded from Lions International.Former board member of NSCRO (National Small College Rugby Organization, now National College Rugby, NCR). Served on the Founding Board of the First State Military Academy, a JROTC Marine Corp Charter school. Served as a US Air Force Honorary Commander, 512th MSG in 2015 and 2016. I served my military service in the South African Army, was awarded the Commanding Officer's Commendation award. Served as a sworn CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for foster children.I enjoy rugby, karate, rowing, and working out in general. Married Angie in 2006, we parent 7 kids (my 2, Angies 3, a nephew and 1 of our 5 grandkids) and three Golden Retrievers, Cooper, Millie and Finley.Born in South Africa, immigrated to the US in 1992.

There are many programs that develop talented athletes, unfortunately, they generally develop talent that can afford to pay for it. As a result, the raw talent that may be in an athlete from a low-income family or country doesn’t get equal opportunity to be seen. This does not mean free access; there must always be “skin in the game” but that should be in line with what the family can afford.

    I am the head coach of the Central DE Rugby Club. We have the Storm, our high school team, the Harlequins, our adult's team, and the Wesley College Wolverines, both men's and women's 7's teams. I am a Tiger Rugby Academy affiliated coach.The Storm is open to any high school player attending high school in Delaware, primarily from Middletown to Milford and Harrington. The Harlequins is open to players 18 and over. These 2 teams practice in Smyrna at the Smyrna Municipal park football field on Monday, Wednesday and Friday's at 4pm. The Wesley College teams are for College students enrolled at Wesley College and practice at the Wesley West field on Mary Street on Tuesdays and Thursday's at 4pm.Our program is affiliated with Tiger Rugby Academy and we are working very closely with Tiger for coaching techniques. Our strength and conditioning program is run by 1806 Cross Fit in Smyrna.
