The SIGA (Integrated Academic Management System) plays a pivotal role in supporting various aspects of academic management at the UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro). Its functionalities encompass everything from undergraduate admissions, enrollment in subjects, student transcript management, course administration, student scholarship management, academic extension, to support for academic coordinations and secretariats, among other responsibilities.We take pride in being an agile team dedicated to maintaining and continuously enhancing a critical university system. We remain vigilant regarding emerging technologies and how we can improve our internal processes.Some notable achievements:• Participated in a commission to create a new system for issuing and registering digital diplomas, employing a microservices architecture. Contributed to designing a distributed system that integrates different university departments. Additionally, developed APIs using the Spring Framework to serve academic data.• Assumed responsibility for the academic extension management system during a team transition phase. Acted as a liaison and leader for the team, establishing positive relationships with stakeholders. This system, a module of our main platform, is based on JavaEE, featuring a modular architecture and adhering to the MVC pattern.• Refactored the system to update the cache of timetable course documents, addressing performance issues during peak times. Implemented an event-driven approach using RabbitMQ and the Spring Framework, resulting in a 65% reduction in data update time. Enhanced code maintainability by introducing a decoupled architecture and improving metrics obtained through static code analysis, including a 90% reduction in code smells, removal of vulnerabilities, and an increase in code coverage rate to above 90%.
