I'm all about raising confidence, opportunity and aspiration in our South West students.Along with Sarah Logan, I'm a founder of Next Steps Tutors Group, a small but growing tuition business based in North Devon. We set up in 2021 and set about solving the problems we saw in education.Problem 1: we didn't feel that children were being valued much in education anymore. Education had become all about data. For students who did well the system worked well, but for those who didn't, had mental health needs, special education needs or were excluded the system was broken. Problem 2: the best teachers were feeling this and were exiting education because the job they loved had changed.Over the last 20 months we've created a space in which children who aren't thriving in mainstream settings get a chance to reset and find their confidence, and where teachers can enjoy more flexibility, autonomy and a greater sense of purpose too. We're now working with Devon, Somerset and Cornwall county councils offering academic support and mentoring to children not in school or on part-time timetables. We have over 30 local teachers and mentors experienced in SEMH, SEND, EAL, trauma-informed teaching on our team, all hand-picked for their kindness and empathy. We can offer face to face (South West) or online alternative provision with flexible contracts, robust reporting systems and stress-free solutions for schools, virtual schools and local authorities looking to support children not in school.Enquire about our services or join our team at https://www.nextstepstutors.comAlso working in education or child welfare? I'd love to connect!I started my teaching career in 2003 and I have taught most primary year groups, but mainly Key Stage 2 and in particular, Year 6. I have been a designated Specialist Leader of Education for maths and leadership of the curriculum. In addition, I have been a Lead Maths Teacher, a Leading Science Professional and an Assistant Head Teacher in two schools. I enjoy teaching all primary subjects and believe that the best thing about teaching is seeing children make progress. In my spare time, I like painting and walking. I regularly spends holidays hiking in the Alps.
