Profile bio

About Keyana R.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Children and Youth from Brooklyn College (May 2012). Additionally, I completed my Associates of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education at Borough of Manhattan Community College (May 2010). My degrees have given me the foundation needed to begin my career in education and has further developed my passion to help children academically, mentally and socially. June of 2023, I graduated from Touro University Graduate School of Social Work in order to provide myself with the necessary tools to be able to fulfill my life’s passion to advocate for those who can not and those who need help with the tools to advocate for themselves. I want to amplify their voices, bring marginalized voices, and experiences into discussions that implicate their own communities. I want to be able to help individuals, couples,’ and families overcome emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues in order to assimilate into our mainstream society while challenging every and all systematic oppressions and racism. Being a Social Worker is one of the greatest responsibilities I have ever had. I believe in the therapy process wholeheartedly because I'm a client myself. I see people in vulnerable states every single day and get the privilege to listen to real stories, traumas, and pain. I see the parts of people that are saturated with shame, guilt, and feelings of unworthiness. I see the raw and unfiltered emotions that we don't often share with others. Each interaction shapes my perspective, deepens my empathy, and reinforces my commitment to this work. I'm a therapist because I believe in people and their capacity for change.
