About Yi “Chloe” Ke, Ph.D.
Welcome to my page! Trained as a material science Ph.D. and strategic consultant, I am leading raw materials sourcing for BYD in America, the world’s largest battery electric vehicle & battery OEM. My team's mission is to secure raw materials such as lithium so that BYD can meet society's increasing needs for EVs and Energy Storage Systems. Before joining BYD, I lead the energy storage program at New Energy Nexus(previously known as California Clean Energy Fund). We aim to support diverse entrepreneurs to drive EV and energy storage innovation with funds, accelerators, and networks. Projects under my portfolio include EV Open Innovation Challenge (2021, with Hyundai Motor and Kia), EV and Battery Challenge (2020, with LG Energy Solution, Hyundai Motor, and Kia), BP Launchpad startup campaign in Europe (2019), LG Chem Battery Challenge(2018), Bay Area Battery Summit(2018-2020). I had the joy of recruiting 400+ battery and EV startups from 42 countries into above-mentioned corporate innovation programs. I also facilitated closing 21 commercial transactions between startups and corporates.Prior to that, I provided strategy consulting service to government and utilities at Rocky Mountain Institute, on topics from long-term energy system planning to short-term power market design to create a clean, prosperous, and secure low-carbon energy future for all. My works were used as a reference to the U.S.-China Joint Presidential Statement on Climate Change in 2015 by the White House and China's 13th Five-Year Plan by NDRC. Before that, I spent five years at National Renewable Energy Laboratory conducting my Ph. D. research on advanced solar cell materials, for which I received the Materials Research Society Graduate Student Award. I decided to dedicate my career to enable our society transition from fossil fuel to renewable energy back in 2005 -- as it would be the quintessential challenge of our generation. I strongly believe the right technology fueled by the proper economics and business model is the most potent engine during such transition.
Listed skills include Solar Cells, Photovoltaics, Materials Science, Thin Films, and 45 others.
