Kate Fooks is a Temporary Digital Specialist at University of Oregon Advancement. Colleagues describe her as "I had the pleasure of hiring and supervising Kate as a student associate for our alumni communications team from January 7, 2022, through July 21, 2023. Kate accepted her student role at a time when our professional team was operating with only a 75 percent professional staff capacity, and an overwhelming workload from the UOAA programs. Initially hired to support our email marketing and web initiatives, Kate took on additional responsibilities with our branding and graphic design initiatives. These additional responsibilities were a direct result of professional development conversations and coaching sessions with Kate about her professional goals post-graduation. Without Kate, I can confidently say our team would not have enjoyed the success we experienced through her graduation in June 2023. In fact, Kate was part of the UOAA communications and central communications editorial team that was recognized by our colleagues in University Advancement as 2022 Ducks of Distinction in Innovation for our work on the Oregon Quarterly editions of the Shout! alumni e-newsletter. Kate was an essential part of the production team, worked effectively to help us meet deadlines, and publish spectacular monthly editions of Shout!. In less than a year, Kate mastered our email marketing system, and web content management system. She was often tapped for special projects, and took on an extensive project workload. What most impressed me was how quickly Kate learned our systems, and continued to improve. I trust her to work independently, and to complete her projects and assignments on time. Kate offers excellent follow up and communication if she is unclear about a project or brief, or has concerns about the timeframe for the work to be completed. I value Kate’s professionalism and maturity in her role, and feel confident in the responsibilities we had given her. I want to further commend Kate for accepting an interim role on our team beginning July 2023 while I was re-assigned for a special project. Kate's willingness to move into this role at a time when our team was desperate for her knowledge and skills, knowing that the role would stretch her abilities, but had no guarantee of a permanent position at the end of the limited duration assignment clearly demonstrates Kate's team-centric and growth mindsets. I felt confident in Kate's abilities to support the alumni communications and UOAA programming teams, and knew that by embracing this opportunity she would continue to develop her project management skills while further honing her already well-established digital marketing skills. Her hard work, tenacity, and resilience were on full display this past year, and to say that I am disappointed to be losing an exceptional teammate would be a gross understatement. Kate will be an amazing addition to any team, and I look forward to seeing where her career journey takes her next."
