Coming to Bloomington from a small-town high school was an adjustment. I became immersed in an environment that was vastly different from that in which I was previously accustomed. My first semester I joined Greek Life and had two important observations about my peers: many of them are very intelligent and come from different experiences and cultures. I saw a variety of strengths. Some people were skillful conversationalists, mathematicians, businessmen, etc. Interacting with these people challenged my views and changed my perspective for the better. Since then I have become passionate about personal growth. For example, I have held various positions in the fraternity such as kitchen manager. As kitchen manager, I worked shifts to uphold the health regulations of IU's food safety program, improving my leadership and soft skills. My interest in Spanish has deepened my appreciation for different cultures as well. I am pursuing a minor and plan to study abroad in Spain next year. I am determined to continually learn and expand my skills to become as well-rounded as possible. It is not one strength that distinguishes yourself, it is the combination that makes you truly unique.
