About Keith Davies
I split my time between being an Associate Professor at the University of Hertfordshire and Director of my company, K. G. Davies Ltd, the roles of which both address the challengies of increasing human population, climate change, and food security. Protecting crops from the detrimental effects of pests, pathogens and weeds is an increasingly important component of crop production as land and water resources are finite. I am an invertebrate pathologist studying the interactions between plant-parasitic nematodes and microbes. My research focuses on plant root health and the fungi and bacteria, especially those that have been found to be associated with nematode suppressive soils, and how they can potentially be developed into biological control agents as an alternative to nematicides. I have over 80 refereed publications and book chapters. I co-edited a book with Itzik Spiegel, entitled "The Biological Control Plant-parasitic Nematodes: building coherence between microbial ecology and molecular biology", which was published in June 2011. I have an abiding interest in the philosophy of science and have recently published another book much broader in scope entitled, "William Blake, the single vision and Newton's sleep", which broadly discusses the role of poiesis in science within the context of the emerging discipline of environmental humanities.Specialties: Crop Protection, Nematology, Microbiology, Genomics, Biological Control, Environmental Humanities, Science, Society and Art.
