Designed and implemented an AWS based VDI (WorkSpaces) solution. Automated the provisioning and deployment of WorkSpaces to increase agility and efficiency. This saved the business from having to increase headcount and guaranteed accuracy of deployment since manual steps are removed. Using AWS Service Catalog, users can self-provision their own WorkSpaces, including packaged application add-ons. The solution integrates with Microsoft Intune, OneDrive for Business, Azure MFA, and content filtering based on a user’s persona in Cisco Umbrella. This is enabled the actuaries to run multiple financial models without adversely impacting their personal computer which led to a 50% increase in productivity. Further reduced the cost of WorkSpaces by 30% by building an ECS cluster to calculate runtimes of each WorkSpace which automatically changes the runtime to either hourly or monthly based on usage.

• Architected and implemented a new cloud file strategy. Migrated our centralized, shared Windows File storage system to fully managed Windows File Server (Amazon FSx), one of the first implementations in the country. In conjunction with AWS Control Tower and AWS Service Catalog, completely automated the deployment, backup, and security of FSx to allow business stakeholders complete control of their applications file system while staying within compliance guardrails. Enabled a 40% reduction in IT overhead and allowed for departmental cost accounting based on file storage use. AWS recognized the multi-region, multi-availability zone (AZ) design pattern as “revolutionary” and requested approval to publish the design pattern for other customers interested in adopting the technology.• Lead engineer in implementing Cisco Umbrella which enabled the company of over 2,000 employees to continue to work saving the company from millions of dollars of lost productivity. This solution was implemented within weeks of the start of the pandemic and enabled Symetra to utilize split-tunnel VPN which increased our VPN capacity by over 1,000 % as internet bound traffic was no longer traversing our VPN. This also greatly improved our security posture by enabling deep-packet inspection of web traffic, and it allowed for the ability to develop a consistent internet persona regardless of location. This was work was individually recognized by the CEO.

• Lead engineer on this highly visible initiative to eliminate three on-premise datacenters bymigrating to the cloud. The project was comprised of over hundreds of workloads and hundreds of terabytes of data moved to AWS using multiple technologies including AWS Storage Gateway, AWS DataSync and CloudEndure (now known as AWS Application Migration Service). This work eliminated over half of the existing/open security issues reported and lowered the severity of those remaining.• As the Technical Lead for Active Directory, designed and implemented corporate design structure for Group Policy, Domain Controllers, and other identity services such as a federated trust between AWS Managed AD and existing on-premises Microsoft Active Directory. This provided users and groups with access to resources in either domain, using single sign-on (SSO). The solution enables seamless, cross-account authentication and authorized access to AD-enables workloads (.NET applications, SQL Server) and AWS native services such as Amazon RDS for SQL Server.• Designed and implemented certificate based wireless authentication on the corporate WLAN (Cisco Meraki) which significantly improved security and allowed for seamless wireless authentication of corporate devices.
