I'm the inaugural director of development at the Allbritton Journalism Institute, a one-of-a-kind institution in Washington: a nonprofit educational organization that is training the political journalists of the future — and has created a new publication, NOTUS, to accomplish that goal.I'm the outgoing co-founder and chief development officer at The GroundTruth Project, home to Report for America and Report for the World, pioneering service journalism initiatives that have created more than 700 full-time reporting positions in 400+ newsrooms in 29 countries over the last 7 years. With over 15 years of journalism experience and more than a dozen years fundraising for journalism, I enjoy the process of bringing together brilliant people, ideas and resources to make good things happen. A steady leader, I helped see GroundTruth through a CEO transition and the departure of other key executives to restore an annual raise above $10 million, and led a conversation with the Knight Foundation that led to the biggest gift in Report for America's history.Though I don't publish much journalism these days, I'm proud of my award-winning track record of editing and publishing in-depth public interest media for tens of millions of people, working with leading partners like NPR, The Atlantic, PBS FRONTLINE, USA Today and NBC News.Earlier in my career, I led more than 300 journalism fellowships in 50 countries based on a model I co-developed at GlobalPost, helped launch a B2B news aggregation service called Inform.com, and co-founded one of the largest student-run news sites on the country, now known as Annenberg Digital News.I'm used to working with executive leadership on strategy and direction, and serving as a public face in various venues. I'm passionate about building the future of journalism from the ground up, and empowering journalists and their newsrooms to tell stories that matter.Currently an adjunct professor of journalism at Georgetown University, I'm a proud member of the Press Freedom Team at the National Press Club and an alum of Poynter's Media Transformation Challenge fellowship, the Spiritual Exemplars fellowship at the USC Center for Religion and Civic Culture and the International Center for Journalists global religion reporting fellowship. I have moderated and spoken on panels at many of the world's leading journalism events and currently serve on the board of Gigafact. Also an adopter of rescue greyhounds, hiker and an enjoyer of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
