About Khadijah A. Mitchell, Phd, Ms

Dr. Khadijah A. Mitchell is currently an Assistant Professor in the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at the Fox Chase Cancer Center-Temple Health. Her research addresses biological, environmental, and behavioral determinants of lung and kidney cancer health disparities for Precision Medicine purposes. Most recently, she was the endowed Peter C.S. d'Aubermont, M.D. Scholar of Health and Life Sciences, Assistant Professor of Biology, and the Principal Investigator of the IT LAB (Integrative and Translational Laboratory for Applied Biology) at Lafayette College.Previously, Dr. Mitchell was a National Cancer Institute Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Institutes of Health. She earned her PhD in Human Genetics and Molecular Biology from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and concurrently earned a graduate certificate in Health Disparities and Health Inequality from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. As a founder of the Lafayette LEADERS program for underrepresented STEM majors, NCI Sallie Rosen Kaplan Fellow, and President of the Johns Hopkins Biomedical Scholars Association, Dr. Mitchell champions the recruitment and retention of women and minorities in biomedical research and health professions careers. Her passion for STEM education led her to found Junior Research Scholars, Inc., a STEM mentorship-based nonprofit for disadvantaged youth (K-16). Dr. Mitchell is the recipient of many honors and awards at the faculty, postdoctoral, and graduate levels for her research, teaching, and service leadership; and uses her expertise to promote cancer health equity.
