This PhD degree thesis addresses two key issues that are associated with interfacing PWM VS inverters with the grid. Firstly, the quality of power supply from the inverter to be injected to mains: prevention of DC current injection, attenuation of switch frequency harmonics, stability of power export and the provision to suppress EMI/EMC. Secondly, the rapid inverter shutdown mechanism on detection of loss mains supply, to secure the safety of servicemen maintaining power lines. The key innovations can be summarized as follows:1. Prevention of DC Current Injection: Novel Feedback Controller2. Control of Inverter Power Export and Synchronization3. Passive Tripping Criteria for Grid Connected Inverters 4. Near-DeadBeat Control: Grid-T Filter-Inverter System 5. Sampling Averaging for Grid Connected Inverter Control6. Authored a report: “Economic Power Factor Determination of Electric Power Systems”, in partial fulfillment of the MSc Degree.

1. Participated in the installation, after sales service, preventive maintenance, trouble shooting and repair of industrial power electronics equipment (static UPS systems and frequency converters, charging rectifiers and DC power supplies, power line conditioners and analyzers) to gain technical expertise and “Know-How”.2. Designed and managed the implementation of complete projects including electrical drawings, selection of cable sizes and circuit breakers protection,…etc.3. Analyzed power line disturbances and assigned optimum solutions to protect critical loads.4. Gained “Expertise” and “Know-How” in sizing battery types lead acid and nickel cadmium .5.
