As Project Director I worked for the Upgradation of AEMC. Previously it was a small medical center with Nuclear Medicine services only. AEMC Karachi was providing diagnostic/treatment facilities to 3000 patients per month and the available equipment/building constructed on an area of 11000 Sq.ft. only which was now quite insufficient to meet the ever increasing diagnostic and treatment requirements of the growing number of patients. Keeping in view these requirements, up gradation of the center and shifting to a new, larger building and replacement of old conventional equipment with new modern sophisticated equipment were essentially required. Moreover, modern radiotherapy facilities were critically needed to cater to the growing number of cancer patients who were mostly poor and needy.New building shall be constructed as per revised building plan in three floors (Ground plus two) having a covered area of about 76970 Sq.ft. Ground floor consist of an OPD for Radiotherapy Section, Conventional and CT Simulators, X-ray, MRI, highly radioactive zone (Bunkers) and services accessories such as AC Plant, standby generator, under ground water tank etc. First floor consist of an OPD for Nuclear Medicine Section, Gamma Cameras and diagnostic laboratories etc. Second floor consist of Research Laboratories, administration and accounts sections, seminar and conference rooms etc. This project completed in 2011.
