The European Nuclear Energy Tribunal (ENET) is an international tribunal, established 1 January 1960, that operates under the auspices of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The tribunal was established by the Convention on the Establishment of the Security Control in the Field of Nuclear Energy, signed in 1957.The purpose of the tribunal is to hear cases concerning liability over nuclear accidents and consists of seven judges appointed to five-year terms. Lecturer - International Nuclear Law Essentials Course
The five-day International Nuclear Law Essentials (INLE) course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the various interrelated legal issues relating to the safe, efficient and secure use of nuclear energy. This intensive course in international nuclear law addresses the needs and interests of lawyers working in either the public or the private sector but will be of interest also to scientists, engineers, policymakers, managers and other professionals working in the nuclear field. The INLE programme builds on the foundation of the annual International School of Nuclear Law programme that the Nuclear Energy Agency co-sponsors with the University of Montpellier in France.

The Director General established and announced to the Board of Governors and to the Forty-seventh Regular Session of the General Conference in September 2003, the International Expert Group on Nuclear Liability (INLEX).INLEX serves three major functions, namely to: (a) Create a forum of expertise to explore and advise on issues related to nuclear liability; (b) Enhance global adherence by nuclear and non-nuclear States to an effective nuclear liability regime, inter alia, on the basis of the Convention on Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage and the Annex thereto, the Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage, the Paris Convention on Third Party Liability in the Field of Nuclear Energy, the Joint Protocol Relating to the Application of the Vienna Convention and the Paris Convention, and the amendments thereto; and (c) Assist in the development and strengthening of the national nuclear liability legal frameworks in IAEA Member States to protect the public and the environment, and to enhance nuclear safety.

INLA - History & MissionIn the early 1970’s, the idea occurred to several specialists and experts of nuclear law, to establish an international association intended to:strengthen relations among lawyers concerned by problems of nuclear law,facilitate exchange of information,promote cooperation.The Statutes of International Nuclear Law Association, a non-profitable international association under Belgian law, were signed in December 1970 in Brussels where it is still based. The Founding General Assembly took place in Basle in 1972 and the first Congress was held in Karlsruhe in September 1973.After some 40 years of existence, INLA has about 600 members spread over the world.Mission of the AssociationThe Association shall have as objectives the promotion and pursuit, on an international level, of studies and knowledge of legal issues related to the peaceful utilisation of nuclear energy, with a focus on protecting persons, property and the environment; the exchange of information between members of the Association; and scientific co-operation with other organisations having similar objectives.For this purpose, the Association may, in particular:organise or promote meetings, congresses, debates, lectures, conferences and seminars, andproduce or participate in the production of scientific publications.The Association may undertake all activities relating directly or indirectly to its objectives and may, by any means, provide assistance to, or collaborate with organisations pursuing the same objectives or whose activities contribute to the realisation of these objectives.
