About Khalil Mulji

Hi! My name is Khalil, and I’m a big fan of climate tech, entrepreneurship, community engagement and sports.I believe in creating something bigger from what we currently have and that we should seek to do this whenever possible. This has driven my involvement in community service, renewable energy, and the pursuit of knowledge. I strive to pursue knowledge to better myself so I can contribute to the greater good and create a positive impact. This past year, I’ve educated myself about entrepreneurship in emerging economies and industries, artificial intelligence, and personal finance to further my passions for these subjects and gain the knowledge necessary to assist others. In my first year of university, I completed a Clifton Strengths test which found that two of my greatest strengths are that I am a developer and a maximizer. I see the potential in people (or causes) and aim to create success with them. Recently, I introduced a group of 10 students aged 9-11 to coding and led them to coding their own games within a week. Previously, I served as an executive for the University of Calgary competitive debate team where we invested significant resources into training our members to become competitive debaters while reducing the financial barriers to debate. One of the highlights of my university experience was being involved in the research ecosystem at the University of Calgary, a top five research university in Canada. My involvement began the summer after my first year and continued until I graduated. During my fourth year, I simultaneously conducted two independent research projects, one in materials chemistry and one in nanoscience. My chemistry project revolved around synthesizing a ternary perovskite oxide for piezoelectric applications with less lead than the industry standard. For my nanoscience research project, I came up with a biosensor that used the aggregation of gold nanoparticles to sensitively detect the concentration of an enzyme, phospholipase A2.Outside of work, you can find me volunteering in my community, playing ball hockey or spending time with friends. I currently hold a leadership role focused on youth development in my community where I manage a team of 12 high school students and help them realize their potential through programming and events that they organize for their peers.
