CDO Magazine grew out of MIT’s annual CDO and Information Quality Symposium (MIT CDOIQ), led since 2007 by the MIT Sloan School of Management, in partnership with the International Society of Chief Data Officers (isCDO) and ComSpark. Hired the firm’s first big data engineers, data scientists and machine learning specialistsDesigned and built the SDC - “Scholastic Data Cloud” - a global platform ingesting traditional database, web, and mobile device sources into an enterprise data lake enabling customer, product, sales, finance, marketing and supply chain analytics in near real-timeDefined the technology stack for the SDC (an integration of AWS, open source tools and commercial packages). Invited by Amazon to speak at Re:Invent - delivered 3 highly rated, fully booked sessions including one simultaneously translated for Japanese and Korean speaking attendeesLed the migration and decommission of 2 complex legacy EDW environments to the SDC. Over 5500 nightly jobs were refactored into streams resulting in a 400% performance improvement over batch processing. Designed a custom data migration framework, enabling a given line of business to migrate all data in only a few sprints. Decommission of legacy environments eliminated over $1 million in costs. Created an initiative to optimize cloud spend for all data platforms, resulting in a run rate reduction of 40% in 6 monthsPartnered with senior executives to define a 3 year transformational roadmap positioning lines of business to leverage new and existing data to identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities, maximize retention, personalize marketing, reduce costs and refine product offerings

Led a team of 10 engineers and analysts to deliver MDP - “Managed Data Platform” - a unified, event-driven ecosystem enabling retrospective reporting and near real-time analytics across the full lifecycle of securities operations. Delivered the first version of the platform into production in only 10 weeks - one of the first products developed using Lean methodsLed the analysis of a large portfolio of data management applications (120+ items, $16+ million annually in TCO) and produced a strategic plan for migration to a private cloud environment, enabling a 60% reduction in TCO over 3 yearsPartnering with other senior technology leaders, conducted an agile transformation across the entire organization, enabling highly motivated self-organizing teams

Led a team of 14 engineers and analysts to deliver LEAP - “Liquidnet Enterprise Analytics Platform” - a data warehouse and business intelligence environment (built on Oracle and Cognos) which delivered increased data quality and advanced self-service reporting, analytics and predictive modeling capability to end users globally. LEAP combines global Liquidnet trading data with market data into meaningful contexts, supporting analyses to refine products Successfully negotiated an enterprise license with Oracle, enabling platform standardization and saving over $2 million annuallyImplemented a model for offshore development, quality assurance and operations resulting in resource cost savings of $600,000 annually and increasing development velocity by 100%

Led a team of 25 data engineers and analysts in the successful execution of the Enterprise Data Warehouse migration project (onto Teradata) focused on improving decision making capability by delivering timely, high quality, relevant business intelligenceLed the migration of 30+ business intelligence applications supporting critical reporting, compliance, analytic and operational initiatives to the new platform in only 10 monthsBuilt and led an offshore team providing centralized design, delivery and operations functions
