As a volunteer in this unit, I develop meaningful relationships with long-term patients and engage with patients as well as visitors through hourly rounding. I also assist staff on the unit with direct patient care in a fast-paced and unpredictable environment.

As a volunteer in this unit, I Interact with patients through hourly rounding. Since this unit has a very fast-paced environment, I also assist the nursing staff with direct patient care and I escort patients to tests and procedures. In order to provide quality care to patients it is important to have a clean environment, so I also help keep things tidy by organizing areas around the unit.

I manage fun and engaging cultural events for over 200 people. I also collaborate with other board members to plan and execute events for community members.

As a learning assistant for the Principles of Chemistry I course at the University of Iowa, I engage with students during the lectures that occur 3 times a week, and guide them through problems and any questions they have regarding the lecture content. To go with the learning assistant role, we are required to take a pedagogy course, so we can better support the students during the lecture. Another aspect of being a learning assistant is taking part in staff meetings that occur once a week where we debrief how the students are doing, and what more we can do to support their learning.

Head counselor for Camp Safety Stars at the Buffalo Grove Park District. Campers ranged from 3 years old to 8 years old. I was in charge of facilitating activities with the children throughout the day, and was responsible for the safety of the children as well.

Through the selective SPARK research program at Stevenson High School I matched with my research mentor, Endocrinologist, Dr. Gilden. I collaborated with her and a research partner to determine the effectiveness HbA1c compared to continuous glucose monitoring systems. I evaluated patient case studies, and graphs of current patients with diabetes. Along with that, I attended conferences alongside doctors and medical students. Once the research was evaluated, I presented the findings at the research symposium.
