I bring over 12 years of experience in designing and operating highly reliable, scalable, and secure distributed systems. In my mind, if you can't demonstrate an ROI for engineering work, it's too expensive to be wasted - both in terms of OpEx and opportunity cost. All great engineering leaders have to be able to do product work as well, even if their customers are other engineers.
