Recruited as General Manager to start a Civil business unit within the Broad Group (part of Leighton Contractors), leveraging experience as General Manager at Downer EDI Works.Established a workforce planning and development framework that facilitated the recruiting and retaining high calibre staff to develop the Civil team in Western Australia, and established a presence in Queensland.Conducted high level business development, generating sustainable business, and successfully managed the bid process for a number of multimillion dollar civil construction contracts in Western Australia and Queensland. Established the Civil business unit as a sustainable and profitable business within 12 months of start-up, exceeding KPIs.

Managed Downer EDI Works' Western Australian Infrastructure and Asset Management business unit, including asset management, pavement technology, recycling and profiling operations.Successfully bid and managed the delivery of projects worth in excess of $200m.Successfully integrated three major portfolios (Urban Land Development business unit with the Civil and Maintenance) and teams into the sustainable and profitable Infrastructure and Asset Management business unit.Communicated the vision required to manage the transition from the fixed priced, lump sum Term Network Contracts (TNCs) to a relationship-based form of contract, and successfully establisheda strong, focused, client oriented team.Established the RoadScores performance management system for the TNCs, and increased risk/reward outcomes for the organisation from $400k to $1.75m in one year.Acted as board member and Project Director for the TNCs, and was bid director for a number of multimillion tender bids.Won Australian Business Excellence Awards—Customer and Market Focus Category (2009) for the Maintenance Division.Won the 2007 CASE Earth Award (Environmental $2-$10M Category) with the Maylands Principal Shared Path & Bridges project.

Responsible for the metro civil operations including all civil projects, Kerbing business unit, Pavement Technology recycling and profiling operations.Started the Civil Metro business from scratch, including establishing business model and governance, taking it to a $45m business in a 3 year period, focusing on local government, civil works (public and private) and niche markets (e.g., urban enhancement and revitalisation).Managed the metro civil construction and maintenance project portfolio, including design and bid management, and contract negotiation and management. Provided leadership for a team of 40 people, and managed a revenue stream in excess of $45m.Won the 2004 CASE Earth Award (Environmental $2-$10m Category) for the Point Fraser Demonstration Wetland Project.Won the 2004 Institute of Engineers Australia’s State Award for Engineering Management for the Swan River Foreshore Irrigation System Design and Construct project.

Provided general project management for the construction of freeways, bulk earthworks, bridgeworks, minor concrete works, and underground services, and maintained quality assurance and quality control for all work performed. All projects were brought in within time, quality and cost KPIs.Acted as safety Representative Community Relations Manager for projects.Provided estimates for major civil contracts including civil works, mining, roadworks, structural concrete works, dams, and underground services.

Supervised internal workforce and subcontractors – crew of 15 personnel ensuring successful delivery of project, on time and on budget.Managed and supervised drill & blast operations. Supervised subcontractors, set out of blast patterns, conducted safety audits and implemented emergency procedure for blast area.Supervised the construction of 4000m2 of high strength concrete parking apron and 500m of taxiway for 747 equivalent aeroplanes.Managed and supervised concrete and underground service subcontractors including electrical, drainage, and lighting towers.Maintained a quality assurance and quality control system on site, and assisted with budget control, progress payments, and claims.Successfully brought all projects to completion within time, cost and quality requirements.
