The Ashinaga Africa Initiative aims at contributing to Sub-Saharan Africa’s long-term development by empowering a generation of future leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa. Our students receive an international university education, comprehensive support throughout their studies, and the means to return home and be agents of positive change.University Relations-Develop proposals regarding incoming-Ashinaga student placement at US universities, in collaboration with Ashinaga colleagues around the world.-Meet students in person in Uganda and develop a personalized list of appropriate universities for application.-Communicate with admissions officers about Ashinaga students, and logistical arrangements.-Connect with Ashinaga colleagues in Uganda to ensure that students submit strong applications and meet deadlines.Professional Network Development-Support the creation of Career Development processes and resources for AAI scholars.-Work with PND team members to develop and implement the Ashinaga Internship Placement (AIP) Program by: 1. Developing and maintaining relationships with potential and existing partners that will accept Ashinaga scholars as interns and eventually offer employment opportunities Ashinaga graduates; 2. Conduct research on prospective industries and job opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa.Work closely with the PND team and the SRT (Student Relations Team) to design and organize a leadership program for AAI scholars;3. Utilizing Insightly to maintain the USA office data.Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning-Develop and implement team-specific indicators to measure the success of the AAI program.-Collect necessary data related to specific teams and follow appropriate reporting proceduresas determined by MEL indicators.-Inform non-MEL team members of necessary data to collect, timeline, whom to report to, etc.

The Institute's Community Fellows Program (CFP) invests in the next generation of nonprofit and community leaders dedicated to social change by advancing their leadership skills, increasing their social capital, and embedding students in a robust professional network to propel their careers.CFP is a fully-funded fellowship for high-potential emerging leaders poised to take the next step in their career. Each year, the fellows chosen will become part of a growing network of change leaders who will rise together in the field.

-Provide research and strategy direction to guide the $2.8M PCLB People Quality funding strategy by assessing the existing and emerging teacher preparation landscape across the US.-Review proposals submitted for consideration within the People Quality portfolio; make site visits, as appropriate; prepare written summaries and analysis documents of grant applications to aid Program Officer in evaluating and making awards.-Support teacher preparation innovators—like Teach.org, a former US Department of Education initiative—to expand into the Connecticut and NYC context by facilitating introductions and connections to key education stakeholders.-Incorporated a monitoring & evaluation framework to the revision of the People Quality portfolio performance measurements to better assess the effectiveness of programs against the portfolio strategy. -Serves as primary foundation contact and conduct due diligence for grantees in the Board Member’s Discretionary portfolio.-Conduct ongoing program and financial reviews of all existing and potential grantees within the portfolio.

-Created and implemented strategic social media plan to increase awareness of the services Me Too & Co. provides to families with children of varying physical and cognitive impairments.-Established and maintained positive relationships with other service providers and funders within the London impairment community.-Transitioned 500-member client database from paper filing system to digital system.

-Interviewed refugee and asylum seekers in situations of destitution to assess which known services and/or funds would best improve their situation to then write grant proposals on their behalf.-Secured grants for over 10 families/individuals who were destitute asylum-seekers.-Developed the first onboarding materials and visuals of the BRC grant writing process for incoming refugee grant writers.-Conducted online prospect research for new refugee and asylum-seeker specific funding opportunities.-Updated and maintained the Beneficiary Relationship Management System (CRM) with client details.

-Developed, innovative youth-centered content and managed the logistics necessary for the 24th annual Michigan Community Foundations Youth Project’s (MCFYP) youth philanthropy conference for 300+ youth attendees.-Managed the geographically dispersed MCFYP committee, facilitated their training, and supported their session development leading up to and during the conference.-Drove outreach and support for Michigan Youth Advisory Committees by conducting advisor trainings and providing resources to committees.-Generated weekly content for social media accounts and the annual newsletter for the MCFYP committee.-Transitioned the paper evaluation form to an online reporting system which allowed for a more streamlined evaluation review process.

-Researched youth philanthropy programs and grants data across the world to build the first youth philanthropy database of its kind (youthgiving.org).-Cleaned, prepared and maintained data for use in sector-wide database entry and funding map.-Support initiative by writing blog posts and gathering other information for the online resource.-Provide weekly content for their Facebook page related to the giving resource.

-Created and facilitated youth trainings on the grant review and giving circle process for first-time grantmakers, exposing a new generation to the world of philanthropy.-Coordinated with team of fellows and youth advisors on the content and facilitation of five regional youth philanthropy gatherings across the US for 300+ participants.-Developed innovative virtual site visit process to engage potential grantees even during time-sensitive grantmaking sessions. -Researched and wrote case studies on various youth philanthropy initiatives across the US.-Updated Salesforce and other online information hubs through regular data entry and quality checks.

-Plan an annual summer youth philanthropy conference for 300+ youth.-Create and facilitate various sessions on philanthropy related topics.-Assist with statewide regional trainings on philanthropy related topics.

-Member or Youth Grant Committee where we helped review grants from youth programs all around the city and granted $40,000 annually.-Served as Youth Trustee on the Community Foundation Board of Trustees for 2 years.
