With my legal background, I'm able to bring together an understanding of potential regulatory hurdles, creative solutions, and assessment of risk. I innovate and build on behalf of low-income communities using technology. In my last role at Amazon, I built the most diverse team within the North America Consumer business (corporate). This resulted from an unrelenting focus on hiring, retaining, and growing diverse team members. Below are a few accomplishments from this time: -Launched online SNAP EBT acceptance at Amazon and Amazon Fresh in April 2019. This represented the first time that SNAP recipients could use their benefits to buy groceries online. -During the pandemic, expanded online SNAP acceptance at Amazon across the nation. I also enabled the payment method on Whole Foods Market online. -Developed an idea for a cash acceptance product intended to enable cash-preferring customers to be able to shop on Amazon. Despite a clear need for a solution for cash acceptance, this idea was not the right now and did not succeed in the US. It is, however, a popular product for Amazon's Mexico site. -Developed an online layaway program enabling budget-conscious customers to pay for purchases over time with no credit check and no fees, mirroring the physical store layaway concept in the online space. -Built a boots-on-the-ground program focused on food desert communities in large cities to raise awareness of online grocery and online SNAP EBT purchasing options available to members of the community. Prior to my time focused on underserved populations, I was the Technical Advisor (Chief of Staff) to the SVP of North America Retail. This enabled me to have a broad view of senior leaders' roles in operating large-scale businesses as well as to go deep into problem spaces to help find new solutions. This role was pivotal in my transition from Legal to Business. Before the Technical Advisor role, I was the lead attorney (Associate General Counsel) for the North America Retail organization. I supported the business team through launches of new businesses, shuttering businesses, and navigating regulatory challenges. I spent 2 years at Mayer Brown (Chicago) doing IT/Outsourcing work.
