As Social Media Director, my aim is to help grow healthsystemCIO.com's social media presence by posting and promoting content on Twitter, LinkedIn and our newly-revamped FaceBook site.

At healthsystemCIO.com, the sole online-only publication dedicated to exclusively and comprehensively serving the information needs of healthcare CIOs, duties include conducting podcast interviews with CIOs, developing relationships with potential blog authors, editing and publishing blog pieces, attending industry conferences, and developing connections in the industry. Developed a podcast Panel Discussion series in which influential CIOs share thoughts on pertinent topics.

Helped drive site traffic, generate content, and increase reader participation by creating a contest called "Why I Love Being a Pharmacist."Other achievements included recruiting bloggers, conducting interviews with thought leaders, developing ideas for and building online resource centers, and managing the publication’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

As senior editor, my responsibilities included developing editorial calendars, generating article ideas, writing articles and summaries, assigning articles to freelancers, working with writers to ensure copy met criteria in terms of accuracy and relevance, editing copy, and posting content online for two publications. I also conducted interviews with thought leaders, posted daily news items for various specialties, compiled two weekly e-newsletters, provided content for resource centers, and attended medical conferences, where my duties involved covering scientific sessions and posters and conducting interviews with presenters and speakers.

Had several roles as associate managing editor at Healthcare Informatics, including researching ideas based on trends in healthcare IT and policy, and writing articles on topics such as the evolving role of hospital executives, the environmental movement in healthcare, and social media as a marketing strategy. Was promoted to associate managing editor after assuming a larger role in the production process (editing articles, working with the art department to determine page count and article placement, providing input on layout, and organizing cover shoots). Helped build the publication’s online presence by conducting Web-exclusive interviews with industry leaders — many of which were picked up by media outlets such as FierceHealthcare and iHealthBeat — and writing a blog focusing on industry happenings. Developed relationships with hospital executives, association leaders, analysts and consultants, and public relations representatives. Received a 2009 award from the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors for best news article for a piece focusing on the technologies being used to prevent errors during surgery.

Created and edited copy for medical education programs focusing on a variety of specialties, including pediatrics, respiratory diseases, sleep medicine, infectious diseases, neurology, bariatric medicine and diabetes. Composed needs assessments for educational symposia, formulating topics for individual presentations and identifying key opinion leaders to serve as faculty participants, and prepared content for Websites providing patients with practical information about surgical procedures. Also collaborated with freelance writers to guide documents through the publication submission process, ensuring that content is appropriate for a physician audience and meets fair balance requirements.

Was able to learn a great deal about both the healthcare IT industry and medical education by working as an assistant editor for MDNG. Wrote feature stories for a physician audience dealing with topics such as the evolving role of information technology in the physician practice, the existence of racial and ethnic disparities in disease care, the importance of health literacy, and the increasing incidence of obesity in children. Researched the medical Internet and compiled guides to Websites featuring educational programs and clinical information for physicians.
