Creatives and artists have somewhat of a notorious relationship with money - the phrase “I’m broke af” is uttered in muted undertones rather frequently in such circles. There seems to be diffident pathways when it comes to money - they either steer clear of thinking about it or are unsure as to how to make more of it.I’ve been working towards being a financial consultant that understands the language of creatives and artists (being one myself), and I think that we are not necessarily “bad with money”. I have found, simply, that many are overwhelmed or confused about how to best manage their finances. There is also an unspoken fear of talking about finances with experts such as financial advisors, stemming from fears of up-selling.As a self-employed creative, I firmly believe in sound financial management as being a key driver for sustainable passion. It has been with this steadfast belief that I have managed to tide through the struggles of beginning a start-up, and also leverage on opportunities as and when they arose. Talking about your finances should not be scary - it is necessary.
