About Ki Hwan Moon

I am currently employed as Associate Professor at Korea Maritime & Ocean University (KMOU). I also serve as an KMOU-Institutional Biosafety Officer, and KMOU-Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee Chair. My research experience focuses on Bacteriology field, especially pathogenesis works. During the undergraduate and Master degree, I joined Dr. Ho Young Kang lab at Pusan National University, and participated in the development of a live recombinant attenuated Salmonella anti-pneumococcal vaccines for newborns (supported by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) as well as studied of fish pathogen, Edwardsiella tarda, and construct its vaccine strain, to prevent the widespread of infectious fish diseases (supported by National Fisheries Research & Development Institute, South Korea). After, I joined Dr. Md A. Motaleb lab at East Carolina University as a Ph.D fellow, I worked with the Lyme disease spirochete, Borrelia burgdorferi, and studied the role of motility and chemotaxis in its infectious life cycle (supported by NIH). After I earned my Ph.D. degree in Microbiology, I joined Dr. Mario F. Feldman lab at Washington University in St. Louis as a Post-Doc., I worked with the multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii, and studied T6SS and drug-resistant plasmid in this pathogen. Since I joined KMOU as a principal investigator at Lab. of Marine Microbiology, my research focuses on antibiotics resistance fish pathogens. My team trying to understand pathogenesis and antibiotic resistance mechanisms of these superbugs, studying regulatory mechanism of virulence factors, and developing an infectious disease control system in these pathogens.

Listed skills include Bacterial Cell Culture, Bacterial Transformation, Electroporation, Bacterial Mutant Cell Generation, and 39 others.
