Provide specialized acute care to a complex adult patient population to those requiring intensive care and monitoring for aortic dissection, post-cardiovascular, vascular and/or thoracic surgery, and heart and lung transplantation. Identify and manage post-operative surgical and anesthetic complications. Expertise in management of various invasive/non-invasive monitoring: central venous, arterial and pulmonary artery pressure monitoring, Swan-Ganz catheter, Continuous Cardiac Output catheter, ET-CO2, EKG, external pacemaker, ventilator and defibrillator. Expert management of vaso-active, anesthetic and sedative infusions as well as multiple supportive devices: CRRT, IABP, VADs and TAH.Functioning in the Staff Nurse IV role, responsible for the training and orientation of new hires, the preceptorship of undergraduate and graduate school nursing students, providing unit assistance in the float nurse role leading in code and emergent situations as well as assisting the Charge Nurse in managing the flow of the unit.Functioning in the Charge Nurse role, responsible for maintaining the flow of the unit during the assigned shift; organizing, prioritizing and delegating work flow and patient assignments; managing the influx of surgical cases, admissions and discharges from the unit; collaborating with other health care disciplines/ departments to maintain communication and provide optimal patient care.
