Beginning as a long term substitute for third grade in February 2021, I was hired as a full time Associate Teacher for first grade in the 21/22 school year and for second grade in the 22/23 school year. My job duties include: assisting lead teachers with classroom management, lesson preparation, and facilitation of class activities and lessons, including leading small and whole group lessons; supporting students with academic and social emotional learning; and supervising student snack, lunch, and outdoor play time.

The Rainbow School is a small, nature based homeschool program made up of 4 and 5 year old students. As the teacher for this group, I created and implemented lessons and activities following the Enjoying Nature With Children (ENWC) curriculum, set up and cleaned up the classroom space at the beginning and end of each day, ensured the health and safety of students and families by wearing a mask, maintaining social distancing when possible, and getting tested for COVID-19.

This was a one quarter internship held mainly at Younger Lagoon that allowed me to gain experience in: disposing of invasive and dead plants, planting native coastal shrub, a basic understanding of coastal shrub ecosystems, and assisting in small restoration projects.
