There were times it was really intimidating to ask strangers questions about something to do with their sex life, or other personal ones like, "What was your worst drug experience?"*Researched local businesses such as galleries and made contact with the owners on behalf of Vice's art show or other events.

When the Minneapolis Central Library reopened its new doors in 2006, I was at a point in my life when I felt like an outsider in my own skin. I was only a freshman in high school, but my childhood had already been ripped out from under me the year prior, and though I didn’t idealize what was taken from me, I’d felt unfairly pressured down a road to adulthood that I knew I wasn’t ready for. Then I discovered the Minneapolis Central Library’s Teen Central, and with it, an alternate route. In Teen Central, I found a space where I could exist in the space between childhood and adulthood without feeling the pressure from the outside world that force teenagers to pick a side. I joined the MPLS Teen Alliance Group, then spoke as its representative in appealing to the Hennepin County Library Board to stand with us against DOPA. My first job was as Teen Central’s Tech Intern, where I was given the freedom to design my own projects. As a teenager, I saw firsthand how great of an impact a librarian can make. I understand that librarians and their involvement with the community have the potential to change lives through the programs they held coordinate and the opportunities they can connect their community to. My involvement with the programs offered through Teen Central changed my life profoundly.
