Three things are very important to me: community, which provides me emotional and social support; science, because it gives me the tools to generate knowledge and insights to support social change; and most important, social justice and equity for all. My work at Community Science brings all these things together and gives me the opportunity to combine my passion, knowledge, and skills to contribute to social change. I have the privilege to work with foundations, local governments, federal agencies, and nonprofit organizations to build their capacity and support their efforts to effect change. Alongside our very diverse, talented team at Community Science, we have helped these institutions’ processes to develop strategies to build community and effect systems change and to evaluate and continually improve their efforts. We also have provided coaching, training, and technical assistance to these institutions to more effectively use data and evaluation findings to inform decisionmaking. We continually seek foundations, local governments, federal agencies, and nonprofits who believe in the power of community and science and the urgency of dismantling systems that perpetuate inequity and injustice.My 20 years of experience has taught me that social science knowledge and skills are important for the work I do. Equally important, however, are empathy, commitment, passion, and facilitative abilities. This set of competencies enable me to transform science into a practical tool, and we are consistently working to strengthen these competencies among our staff at Community Science. This goal is exemplified in how clients have described us — “a consulting firm with soul,” and “a thought partner, not just a contractor.” The work that we do at Community Science is intense. To maintain a healthy perspective and not lose sight of our mission — health, just, and equitable communities — I love to draw and paint and experience new places and cultures with my family.
