In Dr. Jens Carlsson's research group I was able to design and implement a non-invasive sampling method for collecting DNA from scat samples, without whole-sample transport. Using limited materials, I collected samples in Galana Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya over a 2 week period. This not only gave me the samples I needed for DNA extraction and amplification in the laboratory, but also allowed me to increase the organization and efficiency of sampling while on-site due to unforeseen conditions and threats. Collaborations and coordination amongst many team members both from Ireland and many from Kenya.

I provided instruction and assistance for laboratory classes and quantitative analysis assignments. I was a tutor for the students on their various assignments and projects and gave feedback on graded assignments.

How Changes in Plant Community Structure Affect Terrestrial Invertebrate Food WebsIn Dr. Chad Tillberg's lab I assisted in invertebrate collection from Oregon field plots to see how an invasive-plant targeting herbicide is affecting the other organisms living there. We collected, identified and preserved invertebrates and I initiated and completed a reorganization of previously collected samples.
