My role as a Project Engineer within the specialist MEICA team of a top tier civil contractor is to deliver the mechanical and electrical element of projects. Due to our team being small and covering a large amount of workload, I take lead on most of the projects I work on. This includes management and co-ordination of every aspect in a project life cycle; including design, development, installation, commissioning and handover.As main contractor, I am responsible for liaising with both client and subcontractors efficiently to deliver projects. Subcontractors vary in specialist disciplines so I need to understand effectively to make critical decisions. Our work is predominantly in the water industry which has specifications to be met on all installations, so quality assurance and control is of high importance. The nature of the industry means I regularly travel to remote sites all over the country.

As a calibration engineer I was responsible for the inspection, testing and certification of equipment from a variety of engineering disciplines including; metrology, electrical, temperature, torque, mass and pressure. This work was predominantly in a controlled lab environment but I regularly worked on various sites and locations within industrial and marine areas. Working in this area gave me a great education in quality, certification, and equipment function.I was also responsible for the skilled education of an apprentice engineer, who has now went on to be an excellent lead engineer within the company since I moved on.
