  • Department Of Environment, Science And Innovation
    Media And Communications Adviser
Department Of Environment, Science And Innovation Aug 2013 - Sep 2014
    Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
When working for the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation, I reviewed and identified gaps within the departments planning and deficiencies with the way the department utilised media/engagement opportunities for the department and the Minister. I proposed a proactive approach rather than reactive by developing greater multi-media opportunities and value to their audio/visual capacity across print, radio, television and social media/digital engagement, i.e. develop a comprehensive media unit that supplies media outlets including in-house media with articles, releases, images, audio and visual announcements pertaining to the department. I developed a detailed program outlining the above which was approved by the department’s Minister and Director General and implemented in early 2014. In my role I developed and implemented relevant communication materials including but not exclusive to publications, web content, social media, media releases/responses and speeches as well as ministerial media opportunities, launches, events and announcements. At the Department, I also coordinated the development and public launch of the Queensland Governments Science and Innovation Action Plan and Investment Framework publications. This required me to manage and utilise the skills and experience from different disciplines and to consult across key stakeholder and business units including universities and research institutes, the Queensland Chief Scientist, the Director General, Minister and the Queensland Premier.
  • Gladstone Ports Corporation Ltd
    Media & Communications Adviser
Gladstone Ports Corporation Ltd Nov 2011 - Aug 2013
    Gladstone, Queensland, Australia.
Working as Media Adviser for the Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) and on the Western Basin Dredging & Disposal Project (WBDDP) required me to manage, coordinate and strategically direct a sustainable social and environmental vision in line with GPC goals. To achieve this I was required to consult and work with a range of internal and external stakeholders from environmental and marine scientists and engineers including environmental agencies and the state and federal government as well as facilitate all media/government inquiries/interviews and presentations. Brought onto the project at the initial hight of criticism in November 2011, to direct GPCs vision, mitigate against criticism, and to secure communications funding, I implemented the WBDDP Media, Communications and Stakeholder Plan to communicate the best message through the right channels both internally and externally, measured against well considered organisational and communications goals. The scope of the plan included brand/reputation and crisis management and all media related functions including communication/stakeholder engagement activities and events. The scrutiny GPC and the WBDDP faced was challenging to say the least; however, implementation of the Media, Communications and Stakeholder Plan secured extensive funding and allowed the project to be media managed professionally with all stakeholders and government regulators satisfied to allow the WBDDP be completed in designated time frames. While working for GPC and the WBDDP I designed projects and events including but not limited to; Public, Industry and School Harbour Tours, School/Club Education/information Sessions, WBDDP Community BBQ Updates and Community Information Stalls, as well as handling all media inquiries/interviews and presentations. I designed presentations and reports for local, state and federal government agencies as well as government reviews to satisfy state and federal government conditions and regulations.
