• Created application and conducted interviews to select 18-member Union Board team • Led and collaborated with team to organize and produce 75 campus-wide events per semester, managing a $340,000 budget• Conducted team meetings, planned retreats and fostered culture of high performance, community, and funThe Union Board is responsible for creating, planning and producing events for the entire campus on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.As Vice President of Union Board, I had the pleasure of working with the president, with whom I spent a semester abroad in Perú. We had the opportunity to assemble a team of 18 hard-working members from scratch. We created the applications, conducted interviews, and eventually selected the best candidates that summed up to be a well-rounded, high performing team. The president and I were successful in facilitating a culture of creativity, innovation, and community within the team and the events we produced reflected it. We are proud to say that we ran about 4 events a week, totaling around 140 events a year ranging from trivia nights to the campus Christmas party to huge annual concerts, all of which were available to the entire Davidson College community.Furthermore, I was able to apply principles and strategies I learned in my courses, specifically in the Psychology of Teamwork, to constantly improve our team performance throughout the process. Because we selected flexible and versatile Union Board members, we are able to rapidly adjust to situations, encouraging effective problem-solving. Through fostering group cohesion during Union Board meetings and retreats, we maintained a high level of motivation and team commitment while also enjoying what we do. Serving as Vice President was a life-changing experience and I have my Union Board team to thank for that.

As Supervisor and Referee of Intramural Sports at Davidson I have had valuable experience with managing, working with and learning from my coworkers, all at the same time. I also have applied what I learned in my Industrial/Organizational Psychology course to my work with referees. By applying a 360-degree feedback system, I implemented a performance assessment mechanism that holds referees accountable for both absence and under-performance. I maintain my time management skills by balancing a full course load while working increasingly more hours. Lastly, I hone my conflict-management skills by quickly diffusing in-game conflict between participants and ensuring safety for all players and referees.

As a Spanish tutor, I am able to share my love of the Spanish language with those I teach. I see it as a way to draw attention to the importance of knowing a second language in today's global world. As the Spanish-speaking population continues to grow in the United States, I see it as an extremely useful tool in all facets of life. It's also a great way to keep my own Spanish sharp!

Through the use of soccer, a universal team sport, we strive to make a difference in the lives of homeless families, at-risk youth, adults, and people in recovery by providing the structure necessary to teach and develop life skills.By creating a team structure that is fun, positive, and universal, it provides participants with a family-like support group that helps build relationships of trust and stability. The sense of belonging, mentorship, and structure that SSUSA programs provide equip participants with the skills necessary to get off the streets and successfully re-integrate into society. During my semester abroad in Arequipa, Perú, the country's second largest city, I was graced with the opportunity to volunteer with an orphanage. The orphanage was located in Alto Cayma about 20 minutes from the central part of the city. There was a stark contrast between the socioeconomic statuses of those who lived near the center of the city and those who lived in the outskirts of the city. Much of my volunteer work consisted of helping permanent staff with their day-to-day tasks such as helping the children (ranging from ages 3 to 18) do homework and their daily tasks. I was also able to assist the staff in brainstorming, planning and executing fundraising events for the orphanage. One specific program we set up was a sponsor program, where people in Perú and in the United States would sign up to sponsor one particular orphan by sending $35 a month to cover the cost of the child's school supplies and clothes. The most eye-opening part of my experience at the orphanage was seeing how much it meant to the children to have someone there to simply care for them and give them attention. Given their circumstances, it was inspiring to see their resilience and determination to provide more for themselves than they were ever given in life.
