I attended a Get Into Teaching internship ran by Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT) and the Department for Education (DfE) at George Salter Academy.During my time I not only gained invaluable experience and insight into the ever changing and ever improving landscape of education, but also provided - to the students - an invaluable link between their current education and further education.I observed lessons, paying close attention to the routines and behaviours of the teacher, other staff, and students. I carefully planned activities and then a lesson, in which I played to the strengths and was aware of the weaknesses of the students.I led a few lessons on beginners Python for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (Years 7 to 10), and other BTEC IT topics like Search Engine Optimisation to KS5 (Year 12). This showed to me the importance of understanding how the language and methodology involved in explaining complicated concepts must change to best suit the learner or otherwise receiver of information.This internship pushed me outside of my comfort zone, helped me embrace an industry I was always interested in but had no real experience in before, and helped me learn so much from a diverse portfolio of staff; ranging from PGCE students, to ECTs, all the way to multi-decade-long experienced teachers.
