NEHTA is a government-owned company tasked with facilitating the transition of Australia’s public and private healthcare sectors to the electronic interchange of patient heath information. NEHTA supports this transition through the development of national interoperability specifications and national infrastructure services and by supporting private software vendors and private and public healthcare providers in the adoption and implementation of these national specifications and services.

• Managed the development and delivery of specifications for a national network of electronic prescription exchanges and for private vendors’ clinical system software to create and access electronic prescriptions using the national prescription exchange network. These specifications were developed collaboratively with national medical and pharmacy professional bodies and are designed to support Commonwealth, state and territory legislative requirements whilst also supporting the delivery of the right medication to the right patient at the right time• Led stakeholder engagement and risk analysis activities with national medical, pharmacy and allied health professional bodies to develop national risk-based recommendations for personal electronic signatures on electronic clinical documents including prescriptions, referrals, discharge summaries, shared health summaries and pathology and imaging requests and reports. These recommendations are relied upon by Commonwealth and state governments in the development of policy positions and legislative instruments relating to electronic healthcare transactions.• Led and managed the contribution of NEHTA’s extensive support to Standards Australia in the development of Standards Australia products (Australian Technical Specifications) based upon NEHTA’s electronic prescription specifications.• Developed and gained Commonwealth government agreement to a 3-year program blueprint for the national implementation of electronic prescriptions across private and public organisations including general practices, hospitals, pharmacies, and infrastructure providers (currently awaiting Commonwealth budget approval)• Led and managed the development of medication profiles for inclusion in clinical documents for the national Personally-Controlled Electronic Health Record (PCEHR)

• Engaged stakeholders across fifteen teams in seven separate and independent business units to agree to the vision and scope for the development of an enterprise application architecture.
