I have had a variety of training and experiences throughout my personal journey and career paths. I was collegiate president of the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), with whom I attended conferences all over New York State and beyond on advocacy, diverse classrooms, and music technology. I draw from a variety of methods, including Orff-Schulwerk and First Steps in Music. After receiving my Bachelor’s of Music in Music Education, I worked at Hill View Montessori Charter Public School as their music specialist (K-8). I taught approximately 280 students a mixed curriculum of song, instruments, theory, history, and culture. For the elementary grades, lessons involved moving, creating, analyzing, and making connections through music. The elementary students also used a variety of percussive instruments, desk bells, and Boomwhackers. Middle school students did a project on the history of radio and recorded “radio broadcasts” with a podcast application in which they discussed a chosen decade of radio music. Middle schoolers were also introduced to ukulele and drums. In the afternoons, I taught a mixed choir of students ranging from 2nd to 8th grade, participating in the “American Young Voices” program. From the fall of 2020 to the winter of 2022 I worked as an assistant teacher in an early childhood classroom at the Lexington Montessori School. During my time as a full-time classroom assistant, I also taught music lessons once a week with my students. Along with many music and movement activities, students also used percussive instruments such as shakers, guiros, and rhythm sticks. Each year I had the opportunity to teach one vocal piece and one handbell piece for the classroom’s Winter Celebration. One of my main goals as an educator is to reach every one of my students and to help them grow both academically and in terms of social-emotional skills. At Lexington Montessori School, I was able to learn much about classroom management and learning styles, as well as grow as an educator. In the Spring of 2022 I worked as a long-term general music teacher at Fessenden. I worked with students from Pre-Kindergarten to 3rd grade. In the Fall of 2022, I switched to remote travel agent work due to some health problems that have now been taken care of. In the Spring I switched to working as a Guest Services representative for a Newton hair salon.I am now a proud music teacher at the Jackson Walnut Park School in Newton, MA. I work with children from toddler-6th grade. I am in charge of planning curriculum and getting ready for bi-annual concerts.
