Programmer in Development team

Primary function of this job is to aid in the day to day requirements of keeping Purdue’s records and network up-to-date and functioning. A large portion of time is spent on trouble shooting problems with network equipment and records. I learned the ability to maintain accurate documentation and records all for internet and telephone lines.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Houghton Academy needed to set up an effective technical system to oversee students. To solve this issue, my Computer Science/Independent Study teacher started an IT Troubleshooting project and set up a way to gather online students to join offline students. We came up with a idea of not making each subject having a different zoom (google meets) meeting, but each physical room to have one. In other words, we made virtual rooms which coincided with the physical rooms which allowed everyone to be on the schedule they were used to following. Teachers were very appreciative that they did not have to turn on a meeting in every class they entered. Instead, all they needed to do was walk in the classroom as normal. The principal of the school was so proud of what we did when he discussed it with other principals. He told us we made the transition better than anywhere else that he knew of. My teacher, who has multiple published books, asked me to add a chapter on Python classes to be included in his introduction to object-oriented programming textbook.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students were not able to get school provided lunches. This forced the students to pack their lunch or not have any lunches. I proposed a school store to the administration, which they approved and assigned me as the manager. I was able to learn how supply and demand worked. I created a system that involved Python, Django, PostgreSQL and matplotlib to track our finances and provide monthly reports to the head of school.
