Quadrant Scientific is a technical design consultancy dedicated to delivering the leading edge of electronics innovation to clients across the medical device sector. Our core expertise is in electromagnetic tracking and navigation technology. We also provide specialist design services in medical imaging systems, sensors, embedded systems, mechanical and software design.

My work covers the simulation and design of on-chip integrated magnetics sensors for medical electromagnetic position tracking systems.

My role covered R&D of numerous electrical sub-systems for cutting edge hardware solutions. In particular I worked on electronic system design, PCB design, MRI compatible tools and sensors development, and IEC-60601-2 EMC testing and compliance.

My work at Myant involved cutting edge integration of smart textiles and modern high density, low power, wearable electronics. My main focus areas were electronics design for sensing of critical bio-signals (such as ECG, EEG, breathing etc) as well as smart wearable heating systems.Main activities: PCB design and schematic capture, mixed signal analog circuit design, sensor development and integration, product design, smart textile circuit design, power electronics for high efficiency battery powered applications, RF design for BLE, embedded software, simulation and design.

Eiratech is a start-up company that focuses on developing automatic guided vehicles (AGV) for industrial warehouse automation.Developed various electronic sub-systems of the AGV units including motor drives and controls, power systems design, PCB layout and system architecture design. The designs covered development of high power and high reliability hardware and involved extensive testing, prototyping and analysis. Designed and implemented accelerated lifetime tests for the AGVs motors and actuators.Developed an electromechanical “Light Pointer” device for precise illumination of target locations for manual picking and placing of warehouse inventory. This involved PCB design, high power LED and optics design, embedded firmware with TI TM4C ARM processors, power-over-ethernet (POE) DC/DC converters, Ethernet communications and stepper motor drivers.Tested and optimised WiFi communications for reliable data connections to the AGVs. This included writing custom software for monitoring and logging of Wifi statistics and performance.Worked closely with a small, multi-disciplinary team of software, mechanical and electronic engineers in developing these novel robotic solutions.

Ayda is The Wearable Fertility Tracker. Worn during sleep only, Ayda enables women to effortlessly identify when they are most fertile so they can maximize their chances of conceiving naturally.www.ayda.co.I am the Lead Engineer at Ayda Technologies where I head our design team in the development of wearable technologies for tracking fertility in women. My role includes PCB Design, Embedded Firmware, Sensor DSP, Numerical Modeling, Algorithm Development and Intellectual Property.

Smudge provides professional development services, strategic partnership opportunities and support for hardware orientated entrepreneurs and SMEs. My role at Smudge includes PCB Layout, Hardware design, Research and Development, Product Development and Rapid Prototyping for a variety of different applications.

The UCC PLUS Programme provides support to students from disadvantaged areas. My work with UCC Plus involved one-to-one tutoring of 3rd level students in a range of subjects such as mathematics, applied mathematics, physics and general science.

The Disability Support Service provides assistance to students with disabilities. My work with the DSS involved tutoring students with disabilities, such as dyslexia, on a wide range of 3rd level modules.

My work with the CTYI involved teaching groups of young children, aged between 6 and 12, about science and engineering in a fun and interactive way. Using teaching plans prepared by me, I taught the students about the basics of many engineering disciplines such as electronics, renewables and mechanics as well as introductory science.

I worked at Abbott Vascular in the Advanced Engineering Department as part of my undergraduate work placement program. My work included the following responsibilities:• Funding requests for purchase of laboratory test equipment.• Equipment qualification and calibration procedures for laboratory equipment.• Planned and supervised the retirement of large industrial equipment.• Laboratory testing of a production process optimization.
