We are making a strong economic case for additional workforce housing in greater Ottawa County and the West Michigan region. The Leadership Council of Housing Next includes the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area, West Coast Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg, Greater Ottawa County United Way, Ottawa County, Lakeshore Advantage, and Community SPOKE.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is the state's marketing arm and lead advocate for business development, talent and jobs, tourism, film, and digital media incentives, arts and cultural grants, and overall economic growth. The MEDC offers a number of business assistance services and capital programs for business attraction and acceleration, entrepreneurship, strategic partnerships, talent enhancement, and urban and community development.Ryan is the West Michigan regional lead for all community development related incentives and technical assistance programs. This includes development finance, tax abatement programs, brownfield redevelopment and tax increment finance. He assists local municipalities and private developers to make difficult projects feasible while working toward sustainable and equitable solutions for the communities they are in. Ryan also works closely with his counterparts in business development, housing, talent attraction and local land use planning, seeking regional collaboration and strategic placemaking.In 2015 Ryan lead the process to close more than $72 million in State incentive agreements across West Michigan which leveraged over $921 million in private investment in local downtown communities.

Department Head - Long range planning, DDA & TIFA administration, development and site plan review, economic development, project and budget management, zoning administration and code compliance. This role required significant work within the community to identify and articulate the direction for growth and the process for preservation. As a Lake Michigan destination community, a balance between year-round economic growth and seasonal prosperity was always required.In addition to the typical planning role, Ryan worked with the Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Area Business Association to reevaluate the community brand proposition, freshen the image and reinforce messaging through all levels of the customer/citizen experience. He also leveraged a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to fully engage the local arts community in the planning process to transform a rural state highway into a vibrant corridor for public art and recreation.

Responsible for client relationships, project management, new client procurement, billings, and business to business relationships.Ryan was responsible for long term client relationships and short term project management primarily related to municipal clients. Projects ranged from master plan updates to zoning ordinance re-writes and also included site plan review, land preservation strategies and planning for regional service sharing.
