Mechanical Team LeadUvic Biomedical Engineering Design Team (Bmed) Jun 2020 - Aug 2021Victoria, British Columbia, CanadaOne of the 2020-2021 projects I had the pleasure of co-leading is the Variable Density Foam Bone Printer project. The Variable Density Foam Bone Printer is being created by modifying an existing FDM 3D printer to 3D print foam bones. These variable density foam bones can be used for physical testing for research purposes and more accurately represent the variable density of trabecular bone in comparison to single density foam bones.BMED’s second project for the 2020-2021 year was a purely mechanical project entitled the MobilArm, inspired by a member of the community. The MobilArm is an assistive technology power wheelchair attachment that allows wheelchair users to independently access bags they have with them while being able to conveniently store the bags at the rear of their power wheelchair. See the attached video for more information. -
Mechanical Systems DesignerUniversity Of Victoria May 2020 - May 2021Victoria, British Columbia, Canada- Gained extensive design and additive manufacturing skills while working on the completion of a new child's prosthetic hand design.- Collaboratively worked on assistive technologies for upper-limb amputees. This device is entitled the PAW, or Personal Assistive Writing device. The device is currently undergoing adjustments to provide assistance with holding cell phones. - Contributed to pitch document creation for fundraising and partnership purposes. -
Engineering Covid-19 Response Team MemberUniversity Of Victoria May 2020 - Aug 2020Victoria, British Columbia, Canada- Produced 3D printed personal protective equipment for frontline workers in the COVID-19 pandemic.- Contributed to a research review pertaining to the neurological effects of COVID-19.- Conducted a study to analyze the effects that various sterilization techniques have on the tensile properties of 3D-printed PLA parts. This project was completed in collaboration with the Victoria Hand Project and the results are applicable to their 3D-printed prosthetic hands, as well as the increasing number of 3D-printed parts in the medical industry.- Contributed to an orthopaedic FEA study to analyze the stability of various Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty (RSA) screw configurations. -
Metallurgy And Welding Co-Op StudentBabcock Canada Inc. Jan 2020 - Apr 2020- Used a Finite Element Analysis tool to assist in determining how heat input during welding effects the metallurgical properties of a copper nickel alloy pipe.- Incorporated standards into the design process.- Gained knowledge on corrosion combat methods for applications in highly corrosive environments.- Expanded my knowledge of both fatigue analysis and weld design by completing weld design calculations. -
Mechanical Engineering StudentCoast Mountain Bus Company May 2019 - Aug 2019Burnaby, Bc- Advanced knowledge of hydraulic systems – specifically hydraulic power steering systems in the process of refitting a hydraulic power unit. - Further developed my quality control and safety awareness skills by conducting preliminary design inspections on new buses entering the fleet.- Gained practical fatigue analysis skills when analyzing fractured wheel studs, applied methods of Magnafluxing to assist in fatigue analysis.- Designed various test jigs to conduct an experimental investigation to quantify the quality and condition of various wheel nuts under different conditions. -
Energy Engineering Co-OpDepartment Of National Defence Jan 2018 - Apr 2018Esquimalt, Bc- Gained knowledge of steam production and distribution, compressed air systems (LP and HP), boiler systems, and other mechanical processes.- Gained power and energy system knowledge by proposing/applying energy conservation methods to these various processes and systems.- Became accustomed as to how mechanical systems are incorporated into ship, and submarine design. -
