    The Parent Child Advocate will work with women at risk of having a child with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and with their immediate social networks, to improve their life circumstances. The Parent – Child Advocate will provide intensive, long-term, outreach support and advocacy, and will connect families to a comprehensive variety of supports in the community. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including being honest, direct, and have the ability to communicate empathy Collaboratively set goals as well as plan for and evaluate their attainment Accommodate a flexible schedule Identify the strengths of people in difficult situations and recognize and encourage small successes. Self-directed and flexible within a specified framework Recognize that change takes time and have a high degree of perseverance.  We work with the whole constellation of people involved in the program participant’s life Collaboratively assess program participant and family strengths, problems and needs Role model basic skills, social behaviors and parenting skills Set goals, develop a plan of action, evaluate success,  Build a network amongst program participant’s friends, relatives and service providers. Assess and enhance program participant’s readiness to make positive changes Assist program participants’ with implementation of the plan through role-modeling, teaching, information, brokering, advocacy, and providing practical assistance. Document activities and comply with program and evaluation protocols Assist participants to secure childcare while program participants are attending appointments Understand that relapse is expected, and women are never asked to leave the program because of relapse or setbacks. Present program to service providers in the community
