We live life. And hopefully we live it well, until the time comes when we must prepare to die.Sadly, our modern culture has banished death to the dark corners where it has become taboo. The conversations around what happens at end of life are left to, well, end of life. We've been conditioned to believe that modern medicine can help us evade our own dying and have thereby been robbed of our deeper connection to God, divine, or whatever word you like best to describe the indescribable presence that is.In my work as a hospice nurse, I saw that so many people felt helpless in the face of dying. That the living, still firmly rooted in the physical realm, often struggled to know how to talk to their loved ones who were pulling away, who were "between the worlds." So often, fears and stories were left unspoken because of this. And yet, as an outsider looking in, I could see the opportunities to shed our preconcieved and preconditioned ideas about what death is and step closer to the flame. There, we can be vulnerable, we can speak our hearts and even find healing beyond words.The potential for quantum healing and acceptance is huge at this time, and while hospice services are something I wholeheartedly believe in, there are so many more layers of love to be experienced with the gentle guidance of a Death Doula.
