The “Be In Wellness” panel is the brainchild of Kimberly Fleck. Kim spent over a year putting together the idea and deciding on which women she would invite to join her on this journey. As the Universe would have it everything began to fall into place and the right women showed up. With the support of Dr. Ming Wu and his kindness in offering his space for events, she was finally able to bring her idea full circle. The panel holds events primarily at the Wu Healing Center, in West Hartford, Connecticut. Each event is part of a series exploring various topics related to wellness, mindfulness and how to “Just B”. Each woman brings a unique perspective to the panel in both their personal and professional lives. We are blessed to have a fabulous moderator, Christopher Kearns and we are grateful that he agreed to work with us. You might ask yourselves what is the advantage of coming to a series of panels if the topic doesn’t necessarily resonate with me. Frontier Wellness Center is a health care center that focuses on holistic and alternative therapies for people and their animals in East Granby CT. Frontier Wellness Center is the creation of like-minded health providers, people and pets evolved from a patient-oriented veterinary practice that provided genteel traditional western medicine along with PEMF, Acupuncture, Chiropractic, Applied Kinesiology, Advanced Allergy Therapeutics, Herbology, Homotoxicology and much more. I love working here and handling all their social media needs.

I loved teaching and working with students with emotional, behavioral, and learning concerns. They are one of my greatest passions, and watching them grow and succeed is worth all the many struggles you may endure each day as a team.Served as the Special Education teacher for the self-contained behavioral program (Bridges) and the partial day program (Bridges 2) at the High School level. Deliver curriculum and provide instruction to students assigned to classroom, grades 9-12. Perform all of the regular duties and participate in all relevant activities. These activities include classroom instruction, preparation of lessons, development of tests, evaluation of pupil work, office reports, reviews of IEPs, committee work (departmental, curriculum, etc.), participation at team meetings, attending PPTs as required, faculty meetings, conferences, communication and meetings with parents/guardians and outside agencies, participation inopen house activities. Developed an IEP Reading Program, reading library, and student self-report reading notebooks. Taught humane education to students and provided them opportunities to be on a local TV show with Superintendent and local talk radio while giving help to the animals and people in their community. Attended professional development and TCI training sessions. Oversaw Senior Service Projects and independent studies of various core subjects. Tested students, completed progress reports, attended clinical conferences, assisted in creating BIPS/FBA, daily behavior, and academic points aligned with district wide PBS goals, conducted assessments (pre & post), created measurable Smartgoals, developed QUAs, and maintained close contact with parents/guardians/probation officers and other community agencies. Nominated in 2010 by peers for WHS Teacher of the Year. Had to decline the opportunity to pursue the nomination because I was not tenured yet in the district.

Substitute Special Education Teacher at the Partial Day Program at EASTCONN, Columbia CTPDP was an alternative educational program for Windham High School students who demonstrated the need for small group, more individualized, instructional setting. The program ran from 3:15 to 7:15 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays when Windham Public Schools are in session. My duties as an educator consisted of providing PDP students and their guardians with the following:- individualized guidance- flexibility of course offerings- more compacted academic experience- social skills acquisition- development of self-management skills- close, cooperative, parent-school collaboration- ability to earn academic credit toward a Windham High School diploma- small, teacher led groups for direct skill practice- online learning aligned with CT State Standards- coursework aligned to WHS graduation requirements

Responsible for all running a 6 week learning program devised to aid students who struggle in the traditional classroom setting and help them learn through hands on experience, one to one instruction, and employment skills development. Students engaged in the Humane Society of the United States curriculum, which is aligned with federal education standards and addresses all subject matter including the arts and character education. I supervised the implementation of this program titled HSUS Mission Humane, organized curriculum,implemented lesson plans and learning strategies and organized weekly field trips to facilities which would reinforce concepts learned earlier in the week and allowed for students to engage in first hand experiences to further their learning. Students increase skills such as: problem solving, leadership and teamwork while developing self-concept, self-confidence, social skill training and acceptable social values.

2001-2006The SUMMER RULES PROGRAM was a non-traditional six-week experiential learning program. It was devised to aid students who struggle in the traditional classroom setting and help them learn through hands-on experience. Students learn through their experiences and opportunities to reflect and process those direct experiences. Students are challenged academically, physically, and emotionally as they visited various New England attractions, historical sites and parks. Students increase skills such as: problem solving, leadership and teamwork while developing self-concept, self-confidence and acceptable social values. The SUMMER RULES PROGRAM allows each student to be seen as an individual and be celebrated for his/her strengths.

Responsible for all curriculum development and implementation, built around individual student needs and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Primary subjects taught: English, Government, Teaching Tolerance, Social Studies, Art & Health.Handle all disciplinary matters within the classroom, and develop BIP/FBAs. Communicate with the outside reading consultant, therapists, parents, behavior specialists, sending district personnel, social workers and the courts. Attend MS & HS intake and IEP & treatment planning meetings when necessary. Responsible for implementing conflict resolution and skill-streaming groups and art related activities, which compliment the overall curriculum for students within the classroom setting. Responsible for administering MCAS and assuring those students’ individual needs re met according to IEP guidelines for testing. Advisor to student animal, environmental and global issues advocate group which worked with animal shelters in both MA and NH. Trained and certified in first aid, CPR and CPI.

Provided one to one intervention in a natural environment to reduce or manage the symptoms of a client’s mental illness, allowing the client to develop, utilize, and maintain the skills & supports he/she needs to successfully live. I also had great success with bringing teen age clients to one of the no kill shelters I volunteered at as part of their social and emotional growth goals.

Challenge and develop student skills while simultaneously allowing them to express themselves as individuals. Plan and prepare various materials and examples to compliment all lessons.
