I am Provost of the University of Edinburgh. I act as the Chief Academic Officer for the University, additionally line managing three Heads of Colleges, as well as the Vice-Principals For Research and Enterprise, and International. I was previously Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Enterprise at Cardiff University, with responsibility for delivery of all components of Cardiff's 'The Way Forward 2018-2023' research and innovation strategy. I am also a member of MRC Council, a non-executive Director of CaSE, and previously member of the HEFCW Research Wales Committee and the Wales Science and Innovation Advisory Council. I was previously Chair of the GW4 Alliance Board, which involves leadership of collaboration between four of the most research-intensive and innovative universities in the UK: Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter, as well as Deputy Chair for the MRC Non-Clinical Training and Career Development Panel.
