• Collaborative project with Happy Goat Coffee. • Reduce waste from coffee processing by optimizing roasting conditions to produce ‘silverskin tea’• Extract and apply main scientific ideas from peer-reviewed articles. • Quantify toxic phytosterol oxidation products (POP) formed during the roasting process to identify the roasting times and temperatures to minimize POP.• Report scientific data to the non-scientific industry partner in a timely and effective manner.

• Large data set manipulation and interpretation through statistical computing. • Display and communicate complex scientific data to technical and non-technical audiences. • Analyze complex chemical mixtures with high performance liquid chromatography tandem mass-spectrometry and post acquisition metabolomic strategies.• Cultivation of microorganisms under aseptic conditions to optimize conditions for toxin production.• Extract natural toxins from microbial and plant sources.• Utilize several chromatographic techniques for the isolation and purification of natural products including normal phase flash chromatography, reversed phase HPLC, and thin layer chromatography.• Structurally and toxicologically characterize novel secondary metabolites with tandem mass spectrometry, NMR, and biological assays.• Perform technical services on equipment and protocols to ensure successful operation. • Coordinate multiple on-going and large-scale projects, distributing responsibilities and tasks to lab members. • Continuously follow the requirements set by the Environmental, Health and Safety council at Carleton University.
