Sharing our family's journey with Autism.A personal view into non-verbal Autism, its challenges, opportunities, and how we thrive through it all. Our emphasis is on creating lasting life skills, independence, and helping Charlie realize his potential one small step at a time while incorporating our family's needs as well. Learn about "Charlieisms" and how hope and love help us persevere in this complicated and convoluted world.I am asked regularly to speak about how to advocate for vulnerable populations with government programs, health care, and school systems. (KopperBlue started during COVID as a way to help other parents home-school their children. Together with my sister (a speech pathologist) we created downloadable lesson plans and books. During an "After Autism Diagnosis" session, my role is to share with parents my journey with Autism. I do this by sharing our story and by providing insights during the presentation. I share real and candid moments of when my youngest son was diagnosed with ASD and what we have been through to date. My goal is to show parents they are not alone, that there are tough times but with resources and help you can get through it. I aim to provide some hope to parents that having a child with Autism can be a gift in so many ways.The Child Development Centre hosts an "After Autism Diagnosis" meeting for parents of newly diagnosed children on the Autism Spectrum. My role is to coordinate with the social worker(s) from the Child Development Centre and provide insight into the material they are going over with parents.

Lead and coordinate all activities of the Calgary Parent Advisory Committee, a board of 12 members and two FSCD staff representatives. Plan and implement each agenda with action steps. Help to coordinate with the Provincial Parent Advisory Committee (appointed by the Minister) the needs of Calgary families who have children with disabilities.The Parent Advisory Committee provides a voice for parents of children with disabilities whose families receive assistance from the Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) program.
