Although I am in the Planning Division, for the last two years, until recently upon hiring of new staff, I have been working with new water and sewer connections to municipal services, and engineering fee estimates and permit fee calculations - all, a huge responsibility which I am extremely proud of. The tasks took accuracy, knowledge of City policies, Municipal Codes, and the City's Engineering Standards of Construction. It required a passion for thoroughness, which I have an abundance of, and a definite need for common sense and a sense of process and methodology, plus a desire for good customer service. Doing this task fulfilled my need to grow and really, really help people, as I assisted many people both in the City and in the County with dry wells through the stressful process of connecting.I also am the "addressing person" for the City of Merced, of which, again, I am proud of. Emergency services, the U.S. Postal Service, developers, the County Tax Assessor's office and more, are all connected to this responsibility. Dealing with numbers and preciseness, it suits me.In addition to these duties, I also handle customer inquiries for zoning, building permits, new business owners, special event permits, subdivision permits, and more, and assist them with all of the applicable applications and payments. It is rewarding to see people with a dream get that dream approved and built, and then see it grow and prosper.

The structure and methodology of accounting, the number-crunching of it all, I loved while working in the Finance Department. Math, accounting, figures -- it's all a puzzle to be unraveled. During this time, I met many, many of our resident citizens and developed an understanding of public service and the role we serve here.

Fun times, interesting to witness the inner workings and science of landfill technology, and a great stepping stone to other government work. Grateful to have had the opportunity.
